Loved it. My chief complaint was that I read it too fast, but that’s on me. One of my favorite lines: “She loves her friends ferociously, but her true kin are her boundaries.”
I laughed so hard reading A Handsome Face.
You’re one of my absolute favorite writers and thinkers, Meghan!
This was such an inspiring and moving read. While I enjoyed all the essays, as former long time resident of Altadena I picked up on the references to my town which brought me such happiness. Thank you, Meghan. Please write more essays! 🥰
I just read your new book. Meghan, you’re a beautiful writer and a fucking genius. Loved the whole book. “Femcel Cope” is brilliant. I will never be a good enough writer to come up with something like that but I’m a good enough writer (and reader) that I can appreciate what you have done and are capable of. Brava!
I preordered it and read it in three days right after I got it. As with The Unspeakable, it’s given me many minor epiphanies. You’re witty, funny, and honest, and I’ll read everything you write! I hope this books helps you trust that people still want to read and write more articles here. I love the podcasts too but I think it’s on writing where your voice really shines.
RE: "I do not believe collections of essays (unless they are all totally original to the book, as was the case with The Unspeakable) should actually be reviewed."
Needless to say, I disagree.
If the argument is that they have been previously published, then every short story collection by Raymond Carver, Mary Gaitskill, Lorrie Moore, etc., should not be reviewed, either. I don't get it.
Unless by essays you mean... journalism. Even then, though, it depends on the writer.
I'm about halfway through and enjoying it. In particular, the essay "Basically Dead" has me rethinking some things I thought I'd already figured out, but now realizing maybe I haven't. Thank you.

Just starting and loving it!

I'm absolutely loving the book and don't want it to end!

The Catastrophe Hour is next up on my Kindle!
